2010 and beyond
Ten years into the new millennium and the pace of change wrought by technology and new innovations has only accelerated. The same is true for William O’Neil + Company. In 2010, our brokerage services were spun off into O’Neil Securities allowing us to focus our attention as registered investment advisors. This new chapter in our firm’s history is marked by an emphasis on more in-depth research supported by the outperforming buy-and-sell recommendations afforded by our method and a strengthening of our global reach with the opening of our London and India offices.
In September 2010, we launched MarketSmith, a comprehensive, web-based investment research platform for individual investors that improved and modernized our Daily Graphs Online service. Led by President Scott O’Neil, MarketSmith helps individual investors master the world of investing and participate fully in it—even if they have limited time to devote to it. Mobile applications were also introduced as a first entry into markets previously untapped: Top Stocks for the uninitiated domestic investors, and MarketSmith Hong Kong for investors in China and other parts of Asia who are unfamiliar with our method.
In 2011, we launched our newest incarnation of the Datagraph in PANARAY, an investment research platform that translates dense blocks of data into a visual workspace that heightens our clients’ awareness of the most important interactions within a stock’s data. The eventual replacement of WONDA, PANARAY also is home to the model studies, which appear as special digital pages that offer insight into the most outperforming stocks in history.
“The stock market is a beast like no other: indifferent to human desires, oblivious to common wisdom, maddeningly contrary, and seemingly bent on confounding the majority at every turn.”
— William J. O’Neil
In 2012, O’Neil Equity Research, our analyst team that curates the Global Focus List, added the Exclusive Focus List service (XFL), which provides a customized selection of domestic and international equities in a weekly list, with added background and alerts. Two more new globally oriented services also commenced: a new sector product, the Global Sector Strategy (previously the O’Neil Weekly Sector book), which complements the Sector Rotation Graphic on PANARAY, and a series of special reports for clients that spotlight stocks and global trends with noteworthy potential. We also expanded our global services to include a Canadian Perspective and new Week in Reviews for China, Hong Kong, and India. And in 2013, we added AlphaScope to our suite of portfolio management tools.
The shift from print to a permanently digital delivery system became complete in early 2013, with the introduction of William O’Neil + Company’s Institutional Library, a digital-only eReader that provides information and services to our clients faster than ever before.
